Hurricane activity around the globe is continuing to intensify, and now eight storms are being monitored – some causing warnings for land. close to the Leeward Islands is beginning to weaken, however, close to Mexico is maintaining its wind speeds. Here are the latest satellite images, warnings and advisories for storms currently swirling around the world.Northwest Pacific / North Indian Ocean Tropical storm Tapah is located approximately 169 miles south of Kadena Airbase and has been travelling north-northeastward at a rate of 12.6mph. The storm has maximum sustained wind speeds of 57.5mph, and is causing significant waves of 23 feet. Tapah is forecast to strengthen further, but there are currently no warnings in place. Lorena is located around 35 miles east of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and is moving westward at a rate of 6mph. The hurricane is forecast to pass over the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico later on Friday.A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Baja California peninsula from La Paz to Puerto CortesA Hurricane Watch is in effect for East coast of the Baja California peninsula north of La Paz to San EvaristoA Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Puerto Cortes to Cabo San LazaroA Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for East coast of the Baja California peninsula north of San Evaristo to Loreto, West coast of the Baja California peninsula north of Cabo San Lazaro to Puerto San Andresito is on the upswing warns the NHC, as maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph. As of the latest advisory, Kiko was located 1360 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. There are currently no warnings or watches in effect. is moving eastward at a rate of 5mph according to the NHC, and is approximately 345 miles south of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. Mario’s wind speeds have reached 65mph, and further strengthening is possible for the rest of Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the centre of the weather system.
